AMD (Advanced Micro Devices) is a hardware company founded in California in 1969. Their main products are flash memory devices and CPUs. They are Intel's only real rival in the PC market. They differ from Intel in that they use a more advanced "silicon-on-insulator" process to manufacture CPU's.

Products

AMDs 64 bit CPUs (AMD64 or x86-64) are Opteron & Athlon.

AMD K6-2 is probably the fastest choice for socket-7 motherboards.
