From LQWiki
Arch Linux is an i686-optimized Linux distribution targeted at competent linux users. It is fast, lightweight, flexible, and most of the parts under the hood are quite simple to understand and tweak, which can make it a good distro to "learn the ropes" on. It does not provide any configuration helper utilities (ie, you won't find linuxconf in here) so you will quickly become very proficient at configuring your system from the shell commandline.
Arch has the latest stable versions of Bleeding edge packages all of which can be easily installed through the "Pacman" package management system. Pacman is like the distribution fast easily to learn and configurable. Learning it is easy and soon you will grow to love its ease of use and straightforward logical nature.
Arch is fast powerful and configurable and is only limited by your skills and vision.
