A broadcast domain is a region of the network on which the devices will receive broadcast frames from devices within the same region. Broadcast frames a necessary for network management but have a large impact of available bandwidth hence broadcast domains are kept small, this is done by a router (though can be configured to allow certain broadcast packets through, e.g. DHCP).
