Conectiva, started in 1999, is a distribution originally based on Red Hat Linux.
The focus of the distribution is for wide hardware compatibility (esp. older hardware) and ease of installation. Pacakge management is by way of apt-get. Easy package management, together with a timely 'snapshot' repository, allows for leading edge installations.
Based in Brazil, its portuguese language support is strong. User feedback and requests are important aspects of the evolution of the distribution.
Conectiva Linux is freely downloadable and freely distributable.
