Connect to a local area network

This describes how to connect to a wired local area network. See the following link to learn how to connect to a wireless local area network.

To connect to a wired local network, find out your distribution and proceed accordingly:

SUSE Linux

Use the command

yast2 lan

... to be presented with a self-explanatory network settings screen. If you do not know better, choose dhcp as addressing method.

Ubuntu

To connect to a local network; it is usually enough to connect your computer, using an ethernet cable, to get an internet connection. If that is not enough, ask your administrator to set up dhcp, or, to tell you an IP address you can use.
