cyrus-saslauthd is a daemon that provides the SASL authentication service to those programs that request it.

It can be used by a mail server such as Postfix, when the goal is to allow account holders (that is, persons with usernames and passwords) to relay mail through the server, regardless of whether they are on the local network.
