'Dia' is a GNOME Office drawing application similar to the commercial program Visio. It draws using libraries that allow you to stamp objects e.g. a block or a decision diamond. Text can be entered into objects by clicking on them and typing. Lines/connectors are sticky and allow you to move objects around with the lines connected.

There are many libraries in different areas including UML static structure diagrams, databases, circuit objects, flowcharts, network diagrams and more.

You can define new libraries (object collections in Dia-speak). Objects are defined using an XML-based file format. It is a useful product and reasonably robust and mature.
