Doom is one of the three great 3D first-person shooters by id Software, the other two being Wolfenstein and Quake. Upon its release in 1994 it revolutioned the genre. The third installment of Doom (Doom III) is now (2004-08-06) available.

The code for the first two releases was made open source in December 1997, so it has many different deriviative versions, including ports to linux. Perhaps the most interesting variation is psDooM.
