IBM is an acronym of: "International Business Machines". A global company started by Tom Watson in the early part of the 20th century. IBM is one of the biggest computer companies in the world and a major supporter of Linux and open source initiatives.

IBM is also known for their early PC standards, especially the PC/AT and the OS/2 operating system.

Their revenues for 2003 were around $89 billion (US)[1]

They have been granted more patents in the United States than any other company.
