This page has been proposed as a general community discussion page on LQWiki_talk:About.

To facilitate discussion:

  • Use this link to add a comment to the bottom of the page.
  • Sign and date your post by typing ~~~~.
  • Use the small [edit] links to reply to a particular section.
  • Use unordered lists to post threaded replies to a comment.
    • Nest ordered lists for replies to replies.

First Post!!!

This is a general example post of the proposed new discussion page. Notice that I used the link above to edit it, and I signed my name.

  • Replies in an unordered list format are useful.
    • This is accomplished by prefixing your reply with a star, and keeping it on one line.
Use line breaks if you wish to add more than one line to a reply.
      • Nested replies use multiple stars.
      • Please look at the syntax for this section if you are uncertain how this is done.

Hello everybody

I'm new to wiki, but hopefully I won't mess up everything =)

  • Nice to see someone else using this thing. Wow. =) Glad to have you with us.
To learn thinks like Wiki syntax and other useful guidelines, I reccomend the Wikipedia Style and How-To Directory, until something similar is established here. - Fennec 23:25, Mar 5, 2004 (EST)
    • I'm glad to be here, this linux community needs something like this, rather than the hours on googling I've had to experiment ;).
Btw. thanks for the info, I'll give that guide a look. - Streg 23:30, Mar 5, 2004 (EST)
      • As indicated below, we apparently have some structure already in place for this sort of stuff... which I consider incredibly hard to find. - Fennec 01:20, Mar 6, 2004 (EST)

Existing structure

Several people have put a lot of time and effort into things like this and other pages accessible via Help. And we've come up with simple customs for handling talk pages. I appreciate that you are involved in another wiki and your contributions here are greatly appreciated, but please learn this site and make contributions in that context.

  • Sounds good. Still... 'Help' is rather hard to find (an obscure link in the upper right, not anywhere near the convenient sidebar, et cetera). The Welcome, New Users page doesn't mention it either, and neither does getting started/plunging ahead. Furthermore, the Editing help link does not bring any mention of that site, and I still don't see a generic user talk page, a concrete manual of style, or any page on generic naming conventions. And all this darned stuff is protected.
Is there a hidden place anywhere I can look for more of this sort of material? Are there any plans to make this material more readily accessible and easy to find?

    • This is a pretty new site and we anticipate it growing rapidly. The initial pages are protected to maintain some control in these early stages at least. I agree that the help sections are not always readily available. What pages do people think are relevant to always be there? LQWiki:Help, LQWiki:How_to_edit_a_page, Wiki_markup and LQWiki:Manual_of_Style perhaps. The manual of style is still being considered as we see how members feel site should be.
