The LS 120 was essentially a removable hard drive in the same physical format as a 3 1/2 inch floppy drive. The disks were hard disks basically in a modified floppy case.

As the name suggests they had a capacity of 120 MB and later machines offered a 240 MB capacity. The machine connected to an IDE channel rather than a normal floppy internal connection. The were not really a commercial success - beaten by zip disks and the cd-rw.

I personally did use the LS 120 and found it very convenient for moving large chunks of data without the aid of a network, however the drives were not reliable.
