Multi-tasking is the ability to run more than one program at once "simultaneously". Actually, without a certain setup of multi-processors, the computer still does one thing at a time, but the system has the ability to do timesharing between processes, scheduling multiple programs' usage of the processor so that it appears to be running several things simultaneously.
