From LQWiki
NEdit (the "nirvana editor") is a programmer's text editor that has a GUI interface and is easy to use. It uses the Motif (or, optionally, lesstif) widget tookit, and it doesn't require Gnome or KDE to be installed. You don't need to learn any fancy keystrokes to start using NEdit, and can use your mouse for a number of advanced features.
While it is immediately usable, be sure to check out the documentation on 'Customizing' to get more out of it. Particularly valuable are defining the capabilities of the 'Shell' menu and setting options based on X Resources.
If you don't want to use a complex console-based editor, and just want a simple, easy, fast gui text editor, NEdit may be what you're looking for.
