There are a number of varieties within these categories as well. The most notable being single-layered, dual-layered, and multi-layered burning devices. These work on the basis of changing the intensity of the laser to read deeper into the optical media's data layer. A dual-layered disk will provide twice the storage capacity of a single layered disk.
