PPP is an acronym for the Point to Point Protocol. It is a protocol for sending packages (of some protocol, usually IP) over serial lines.

Most commonly used to connect modems with dialup connections to the Internet, but more recently also to connect certain DSL modems with PPTP or PPPoE.
