SourceForge.net is the world's largest Open Source software development website. It provides various free services to Open Source developers. It is simply the best place to go to download or contribute to libre software.

However, SourceForge.net no longer shares the software it runs on with the community. Although they are not obligated to share this software under the terms of the GPL, they had shared it in the past, and this development is discouraging. The Free Software Foundation, in reponse to this situation, set up its own SourceForge-like development website: savannah.gnu.org . In addition, there is also gforge.org, a SoureForge-alike site, running a fork of the last open version of SourceForge's software.
