I dunno that I'd recommend Debian to the newbie in the same breath as Mandrake. :D Not until the new installer, anyway.

Somebody know of a micro-distro that isn't dead? Probably shouldn't have even added them. --Digiot 18:01, Jun 13, 2004 (EDT)

I replaced Debian with Ubuntu in the newbies section because it basically supplants Debian in that area. Currently, it's like Debian unstable with a little bit of the Wild Westness hidden, and it does more things for you like hiding debconf's questions and keeping apt's package cache from growing. However, these conveniences trade off a certain amount of power that an experienced user can make good use of. --Yath 18:39, Jun 27, 2005 (EDT)

In my opinion this article is stupid - in the end, you tell the reader things like "suse uses KDE as default desktop, Ubuntu GNOME, Kubuntu KDE". But the new user who has never installed a linux distro does not even know what a default desktop is. --ThorstenStaerk 10:13, August 29, 2009 (UTC)
