Tuning a file system

Once partitioning and formatting are done, the next step in preparing a new hard drive for use is tuning. To do this use:

  • tune2fs - a command line tool to switch between ext2 and ext3, label volumes, etc.

See Disk and tape drive commands for a list of the disk tools. See http://www.netadmintools.com/html/tune2fs.man.html for details of tune2fs.
