Tux Racer is a fun game where you are a penguin racing down a slope against the clock, eating herrings along the way.

Many distributions include the demo version of TuxRacer as part of their games section.

OpenGL accelerated video drivers are recommended. The game can be played without but will be much slower and laggy. Without OpenGL acceleration performance is tolerable in low resolution with a fast CPU.

By editing ~/.tuxracer/options you can change settings such as resolution and draw distance. A common problem is delayed audio, which can sometimes be fixed by lowering audio_buffer_size. The default settings are quite conservative and can be increased a long way for a modern, hardware accelerated, computer.
