USB is short for Universal Serial Bus. It is the main interface for peripherals like mice, printers external hard disks etc.

USB is a master/slave serial bus. It is (a lot) faster than RS-232, can have several devices attached and slave devices can take power from cable.

Typical apps are digital cameras, usb-storage devices, input devices like mice / keyboards etc.
