WAN (Wide Area Network). When networked computers communicate with each other using dedicated links like DSL, T1s, T3s, VPNs, or other types of routed links, they comprise a WAN. Basically a WAN can be thought of as any 2 computers not in the same physical location (or building) that can communicate with each other.
