Ethereal (renamed to Wireshark as of June 7, 2006) is a network protocol analyzer more commonly known as a network "sniffer". It enables you to browse through capture data from a live network connection or from a capture file on disk. A lot of predefined filters allows you to select packages from protocols you really want, and easily preview interesting sections.
