Ximian, now owned by Novell, is a software company that specialises in GNOME and Mono development. It was set up by Miguel de Icaza and Nat Friedman to do interesting things with the Linux desktop.

Ximian itself is a desktop environment based upon Gnome (currently Gnome 2.2), Ximian have added integrated applications and services such as advanced Package Management in the form of Red Carpet.

Ximian also wrote the widely used Evolution email client/PIM.
