Cisco or Cisco Systems is a company based in San Jose California which historically has specialized in the manufacture of networking devices, especially routers. However of the past few years Cisco has vastly expanded its product line to include voice, video conferencing, and consumer products.
Cisco aquired Linksys in 2004. It aquired Scientific Atlanta in 2005 and WebEx in 2006.
Its router operating systems also known as IOS (Internet Operating System) are proprietary.
Freesco is intended as a libre replacement for proprietary router operating systems such as those made by Cisco.
