GoboHide is a custom kernel patch written by the GoboLinux team for their distro as a method of retaining backwards compatibility with software using the traditional directory layout rather than their non-standard one.

It interfaces with the kernel 'read dir' code and every time a file is accessed, GoboHide looks at a list configured by the user to see if it should be hidden. If it is listed there, then the kernel skips displaying that file or folder, giving a similar effect to the Windows 'hidden' file attribute.
