Kubuntu

is an Ubuntu-based distribution that comes with the KDE desktop, instead of Gnome which is the default for Ubuntu.

Current release

The latest major release of Ubuntu, is Ubuntu 7.04 "Feisty Fawn " (released April 2007). You can find out more information about this from the Kubuntu FAQ or the About Kubuntu page.

Information

Like Ubuntu it has a graphical installer, on the Live CD, and a text based installer, on the alternate CD. The default software installation is tool Adept but you can install Synaptic and use both. Kubuntu was one of the first distributions with had KDE 3.4 installed by default. The default currently is KDE 3.5.6, hopefully soon to see the new KDE 4.0 release scheduled for this autumn.

All versions of Kubuntu are free, so unlike a lot of other distributions there is no fee for 'enterprise editions'.
