From LQWiki
Linux Screen Reader is a project under GNOME to provide a system for accessibility for the visually impaired. The system requires scripts to handle accessibility events, making it fairly customizable. You can use different scripts with different applications, to allow for more tailored screen reading, ignoring junk, and making sure to report important events clear and fast.
