LiVES, the Linux Video Editing System is just that. A video editor with enough features to satisfy but not overwhelm. LiVES supports most video formats, using and thus requiring MPlayer to do so.

The program is themable and extendable, optionally using Perl to create custom effects, transitions and tools.

There are a number of pre-built modules available, and prototyping new modules is easy with the RFX (Realtime Effects) builder tool.

LiVES uses a different interface paradigm to many conventional video editing tools, so it is important to work through the tutorials.
