NAS (Network Attached Storage) is a storage unit attached directly to the network. Normally it is a harddisk packed together with a network interface and an internal web server to configure it. These are handy when you need to quickly add extra storage to your network.

The term is also sometimes used for Network Access Server, meaning a dedicated server for VPN access.

Yet another meaning for the term is Network Audio System.
