Star

The absence of any real information on STAR, as I saw when I clicked on the "star" page and received an error that it didn't exist ;-) , is what prompted me to write a HowTo a month or so ago.

If you use ACLs or SELinux on your systems, you really need to be using STAR in lieu of TAR, the later of which doesn't capture the POSIX Extended Attributes. TAR is past it's sell-by date and there is no good reason to continue to use it when there is a better alternative. To get started with STAR, go here:

I know when I went hunting there for info on STAR there was really a whole lotta oogatz out there on it; hope this will make other's lives easier and encourage adoption of it in your backup regimes-
