Uuencode, uudecode and the associated tools mentioned which handle uuencoded files have *nothing* to do with encryption. Neither do mime encoded files. These are methods of turning binary information into ascii text. This has absolutely no bearing on security, which is the focus of encryption. Relying on uuencoding or mime encoding for security is dangerous, that's not what those tools are for.
