Personally, I like to compile small applications by myself, as i can easily do minor edits. However, I am not very fond of compiling big things like KDE, so I use precompiled packages for this task. The only problem remains that I do some minor changes to KDE to disable some things, thats why i have my older PC do most compile stuff nowadays. Is very useful. :) - Shevegan
