3dfx was a company who made graphic chips and cards. They are most famous for their range of Voodoo 3D graphic cards, but also made some chips for arcade machines. 3dfx also developed an 3D graphic programming API called Glide for use on all their cards.

Linux support

  • Voodoo/Voodoo2 - Supported through the glide library version 2. Supports fullscreen 3D glide applications, openGL through use of a speciall compiled version of mesa3d library and as a second normal (2D) display with the XFree86 glide driver.
  • Voodoo3/Banshee/4/5 - Supported through the glide library version 3. Supports fullscreen 3D glide applications, openGL through use of DRI and mesa3d. XFree86 driver called tdfx. TV-out supported through lm-sensors module, see Configuring TV out
