Ion is a minimalist window manager. Although it is very small and light, it is a full featured window manager designed with keyboard users in mind. It makes use of the lua language, and rather than using float windows, it encourages frames.

Features include:

  • Full useability with either mouse/keyboard or both.
  • Tabbed frames
  • Full frame control
  • Mapping of application by class and/or title to frame
  • Multiple desktops
  • Float frame support
  • Themeable
  • Lua customizeable
  • Full screening, docking support.
  • Application menu.
  • Support for most Linux software.

The down side of this wonderful WM is its steep learning curve, but it's really worth the effort to try for any hardcore Linux user.
