Mambo is an open source content management system. It uses PHP and MySQL and is commonly run on the Apache web server.

The following step-by-step documentation is intended for the content creators who have a site that has already been setup.

Editing or creating a basic page

Go to http://<mambo site>/administrator/
Log in
You can see the menu at the top. Select the left most option 'Site', then select 'Menu Manager' and finally 'Main Menu.'
The list of items on the main menu is listed. The main menu is the list of items seen listed generally on the left side of the site. Some of the items may be links to 'components' of Mambo, others are separators (basically the text headers from the menu) while others are 'content_typed' (the basic content pages).
By default it only lists 10 items. If you need to see more, you can select a large amount by changing the "Display #" that is directly above the menu list.

Simply click on a items title.
You may then edit. Click on Save at the top when your finished and you'll be returned to the list of menu items.

Click on the 'New' icon at the top
Select "Typed Content" from the list of possible items to add
Click on the Next button
Enter in a Name and Title. The name is what shows up on the menu, the title is what shows up at the start of the page.
If you are using Internet Explorer, you can copy and paste content from web pages or a word processor into Text. Or you can type the pages content directly.
Click on Save and you will be returned to the menu list.
Find the page you created and note the red X. This indicates that it hasn't been published. Click on the X and it will be set as published.

Adding a news item

Once in the Mambo Administration, go to Content->[Category]->[Section] Items, where [Section] is the desired category.
Click on the New icon on the top right.
Enter a Title and a Title Alias in their fields. The title alias isn't relevant for news items, it can just be the same as the title.
Select a category from the drop down list. Some sites are setup to present the content in a slightly different way depending on the category, others it does not matter what you choose.
Type the news story into the 'Intro Text'. If the news item is longer then a paragraph, you can include the rest in the 'Main Text'. The main text content will be made accessible from a read more link following the intro text.
Check the 'Show on Frontpage?' box that is on the right.
Click the save icon on the top right.
Go to the Components->Frontpage->Manage Items
Use the blue arrows under the 'reorder' header to adjust the order of front page items if necesary.
Under the published header there should be a red x for the new news items. Click the red x, this will publish the item on the main page.

Once in the Mambo Administration, go to Components->Mambel Fish->Translation.
Under the select box "Content Elements" select "Contents"
Click on the item you want to translate
The left side shows the untranslated 'native' language. You can enter your translation in on the right side.
Click on the "Item Information" tab. The Language select box should currently say No translation; click there and select the language of the translation you just entered.
Select the "Published" check box.
Click on the Save icon at the top.
