motd (Message of the day). On many Unix systems this is a file found in /etc that is displayed whenever any user logs in (unless they've specified a quiet login in their shell profile).

A good place to display your TOS or your AUP to remind users of your local policies. For clarification, see security.

motd path can be specified via /etc/login.defs on most Linux distributions.
