what do you mean by copy on write? You send one write commands and get the data written to two block Devices? --ThorstenStaerk 16:05, August 5, 2010 (UTC)

COW is an optimization strategy used in ext3, btrfs and zfs (among others). I'm wondering if it's worth including an article about it here, or if we should simply link to the wikipedia article. Jeremy 21:23, August 5, 2010 (UTC)
I think there is a lot of linuxquestions frustration in the web that results from the fact that we try to do what others can do better. Regarding btrfs, there have been 7 contributions in the last month. How do you want to beat this sustainably? Better link to wikipedia for explaining btrfs and write an article here "How to set up btrfs" and "what btrfs can do for you". COW will be looking even worse when compared to wikipedia's article. --ThorstenStaerk 09:19, August 11, 2010 (UTC)
The LQ Wiki should definitely have its own article on Btrfs, as it's directly Linux related. For topics not directly related to Linux (such as COW), I'm happy to link to alternative sources such as Wikipedia. Jeremy 14:58, August 13, 2010 (UTC)
