I apologize Marcel, but I'm changing the subsections back to bold. They're links instead of headings, so the whole article is pretty much a TOC.

No problem. I didn't know they were just going to be links. I did it mostly so that there would be a TOC.

On a related note, to accomplish changes like this I tend to throw them into a file and then do, e.g.

perl -i -pe "s/===/'''/g" filename

which makes tedious stuff like this far quicker. Wouldn't it be great if we could have a text field to enter perl code like that and have the results displayed for preview...

I personally just cut and pasted with the mouse, so it wasn't that hard. I suppose the perl code idea would have security problems. It's probably better to use our own tools for something like that.

Anyway, my orginal plan was to incorporate Linux Questions HCL into this one, but now I'd rather go to the individual distro's HCL first, starting with Mandrake and Debian, since those are the ones I personally use most. However, I'm currently pretty busy with getting my Debian install to work, and don't have as much time for hours of mindless tedium. Somebody want to step up?

Oh, and I finally learned how to do this: Crazyeddie 03:10, Mar 11, 2004 (EST)

Why use perl for a basic sed/ed/vi expression? *shrug*

Anyway - do we really need this? It's mostly dead lists and replicates the actual HCL. Why not just a discussion of the questions and answers people might have about compatibility in general and then have an external link to the HCL? Like 'why doesn't Linux support my UltraWeird T-12000 Frobnosticator?' - 'Actually, the manufacturer of the UltraWeird doesn't support Linux due to short-sightedness or ignorance of Linux's potential value - write them and complain and switch to a supported device. The AwfullyStrange Frobonosticator works with great with Linux.'

That sort of thing. I got to thinking about this by trying to follow out the HCL>HCL Network>Wireless>Belkin chain and then looking around in general.

I've said this elsewhere, but I agree that using the wiki to reproduce the content of the HCL is a huge duplication of resources that has very little benefit.
