What is the difference btwn a swap file & a swap partition? Why Does it matter on any newer style Desktop (i686 CPU)
- because you use up a complete partition as long as you use a swap partition. I thought this was answered by the article? --ThorstenStaerk 11:58, November 13, 2008 (UTC)
Not really explained
I came here because I too wanted more from this entry. Moreover, I do not completely agree with the sentiment expressed. It would be better to have pros and cons.
Pro partition: Space is guaranteed contiguous (efficiency), something that is occasionally hard to guarantee on some filesystems. Partitions are also relatively free of metadata: time last changed, doubly indirect blocks, and all that.
