X:Configuration

Configure X by means of your distribution, for example using SUSE, type 

yast2

Generically, X can be configured using: 

Xorg -configure

If it fails however, you can use 

xorgconfig

To find out the vertical sync rate of your monitor (and other parameters), use 

hwinfo --monitor
