Scanning

If you want to convert a paper document of any kind into electronic form, you need to have a scanner and the sane software package installed.

While scanning into an image is fine for pictures and sketches you probably want to convert the image into letters when scanning a text. On Linux there is a program called gocr available that will do this task for you. But be warned: it is not working too well, and will not preserve the layout of your document.

How to do it

Find out your distribution and proceed accordingly.

SUSE

With the SUSE Linux distribution, scan like this:

yast2 scanner
xsane
