Talk:Command line user interface

There already is a Command line article. What do you think of merging this with that? (Basically just rewrite the CLI article?) I can see how each article is taking two different angles on the subject, but I'm still thinking that, in terms of a user searching for information, they're likely to miss one or the other or be confused by both.

Good stuff, though.

I am not yet done. I will write down some of my thoughts or suggestions related to that. May be once it is done, there may be lot of restructuring required and can merge with the other article as well. I guess I would be done in few days.

Treat it as a draft version and not a final version. If there is a way, to separate these kind of work-in-progress articles, it will be fine.I just don't know that or separating like that may deprive the advantage of wiki.

My suggestion is not to mrege them... linking from one to the other is probably good enough AaronPeterson 21:52, Mar 31, 2004 (EST)

I noticed you testing out something here. We have a sandbox if you want to try anything out and see what it does or what it looks like. And there's the page on Wiki markup and the Manual of Style if you need to find out more about marking things up or how they ought to look. As far as it being a draft, don't worry about that - in the wiki markup and elsewhere there's a bit about marking this as a 'stub' page so that'll say this is 'under construction'.

The key thing is that indents created a fixed font single line. To make a wiki indent make it like
:this
which will look like

this

For paragraphs, just hit enter twice to make a blank line. For quick and easy actual code, then use the indent
<space>tar xzf foo

tar xzf foo

It seems to take more time than I thought. Moreover presently, I can't spend too much time in single sitting. Therefore, anyone who feels like editing, restructuring, please feel free to do it. The IN PROGRESS, tag is just for reader to have an idea on the status.

I seem to remember a slashdot-linked article about users who are completely new to computers actually being able to learn how to do certain cli tasks easier and faster than with a gui. Maybe good for a link? I'll have to look for the link though. If I don't get to it before you see this, valli, feel free to look for it yourself. Crazyeddie 17:38, Jun 30, 2004 (EDT)
