Wake on lan

Wake on lan is a feature that allows you to switch on your computer via the network. To do this, you send a magic package to e.g. port 7 of a switched-off computer. This magic package is an IP package that consists of FF FF FF FF FF FF and 16 repetitions of the MAC address from the computer that shall wake up.

Hardware prerequisites

  • Your BIOS supports Wake on lan
  • Your NIC supports Wake on lan
  • Between your NIC and the MainBoard you have the WoL-cable drawn
